Product Name: Coconut Crude oil (CNO)
Origin: Kiribati
Quality Grade: FFA (AS LAURIC) 3.5% MAX, IODINE VALUE 10 MAX, MNI 1%.
Kiribati Coconut Development Ltd (KCDL) was incorporated on February 3, 2003, as a wholly government-owned State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) under the SOE Act 2013. The company was established to consolidate the business activities previously undertaken by the Kiribati Copra Mill Company Ltd (KCMCL) and the Kiribati Copra Cooperative Society (KCCS). Through these predecessor organizations, we have been manufacturing and exporting coconut crude oil (CNO) processed from dried copra since 2003, serving our local and international customers.
Our primary manufacturing operations are located at our headquarters in Betio, Tarawa, where we operate our oil mill plant 24/7 to maintain a steady cash inflow and ensure a continuous production cycle. The Tarawa Copra Mill Plant has a daily crushing capacity of approximately 25 metric tons of CNO and 15 metric tons of copra meal (copra cake) as a byproduct. The raw dried copra is sourced primarily from the outer islands, with major high-producing islands including Abemama, Tab-North, Beru, and Nikunau in the Gilbert Group, as well as Teraina in the Line Islands. To mitigate logistical issues such as copra overstock and transport congestion, we expanded our operations by launching the Kiritimati Copra Mill Plant in March 2025, which possesses a daily crushing capacity of 10 to 15 tons of copra.
KCDL relies heavily on international market demand for revenue generation, exporting approximately 95% of our CNO production. The CNO is typically sold through our main brokers, which include Holland Commodity Inc (HCI) in Australia, King Ta in Taiwan, and Agricom in Singapore. The final consignees of our CNO exports are major overseas refineries and companies, such as Premium Vegetable Oils, Pgeo Edible Oils, Promac Enterprises, Soon Soon Oils, and Mewaholeo Industries in Malaysia, Pt Musims Mas in Indonesia, and other oil companies in Hamburg, Germany. Additionally, regional companies such as Ocean Soaps in Fiji have actively participated in bidding to import CNO from our facilities. We export our oil in specialized flexi bags using tank containers rented by buyers, and we continue to pursue strategic growth and product diversification to serve both our local communities and the global coconut industry.
