The Southern Philippines Development Authority (SPDA) was created through Presidential Decree No. 690 on April 22, 1975. It is a government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC). The SPDA aims to promote socio-economic development in Southern Philippines, especially Mindanao and the Bangsamoro region. It initiates and undertakes development and business projects in agriculture, power, infrastructure, energy, public utilities, land development, manufacturing, and natural resource utilization. The SPDA can invest in fields enhancing the economic development of the region. It serves as the implementing arm for the Economic Catch-Up Plan following the 1996 GRP-MNLF Final Peace Agreement. The agency collaborates with communities, businesses, and government to identify opportunities and address challenges. SPDA focuses on infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, and environmental conservation to foster investment, job creation, and overall progress. The SPDA strategy is aimed at achieving a balanced growth of the whole Southern Philippines.
