Business Description

World's most sustainable

For millennia, tuna has been the lifeblood of the Maldives,

nourishing our people and shaping our cultural heritage.

Today, ancient fishing traditions blend seamlessly with modern

management  to protect Maldives Tuna and the livelihoods it sustains.

The Maldives restricts tuna fishing to pole-and-line and handline methods, following science-based policies that set global standards.

Our fishing methods ensure virtually zero bycatch, ensuring no harm to turtles, sharks, or birds throughout the entire fishing process.

Proximity to fishing grounds ensures our 100% artisanal fleet operates with unmatched fuel efficiency compared to any other tuna fleet in the world.

All fishers in the Maldives receive a share of the boat's earnings, 60-80% of the total export value—the highest anywhere in the world.

"Unsurprisingly, the Maldives has gained a reputation as a leader in sustainable tuna fishing and is called upon to share knowledge and support other fishing nations."

Tuna's versatility shines in global dishes: from the zest of Peruvian ceviche to the heartiness of Spanish empanadas, and the spice-infused grilled steaks of the Caribbean. This diversity underscores tuna's culinary reach.

Maldives does not allow industrial fishing vessels within its waters, and restricts tuna fishing to artisanal boats (dhonis) owned by the island communities. All fishers in Maldives receive a share of the take from each trip, averaging 60-80% of export value - the highest anywhere in the world.

Introducing our newest offering: Sashimi Grade Skipjack Tuna. With cutting-edge cryogenic freezing techniques, we preserve the skipjack in its purest form. Upon defrosting, it retains all the freshness and quality of a just-caught fish, making it ideal for sashimi,  Katsuo no Tataki, and much more.

Our two factories in Himmafushi were purpose-built to optimize the receiving, processing, and export of tuna from the Maldives, allowing us to deliver exceptional quality at competitive prices. .

Tuna caught in Maldives is one of the most sustainable, fair and transparent seafood products available today.
